Building Large Format Box Camera

Alex Crowell

Alex Crowell

Have you ever wanted to build your own large format camera? You can! Following a basic pattern and using stock lenses, each student will construct their own 8x10” foam core camera with a DCX 300mm single element glass lens and drop-in waterhouse stop to control the aperture. On Saturday, we’ll review basic photographic and optical principles and build the camera following the lines of a basic pattern. On Sunday, you’ll get hands on instruction on how to load the camera with film, tips on shooting, develop images, and end with a short a short critique. Large format photography is helpful, but not necessary.

INCLUDES: lens, foamcore, tape, paper, film, and materials needed for making the camera.
