Digital Photography for Youth
This 7- week class is designed for students aged 10-18 yrs old to explore digital photography through lectures and hands-on activities in and around RayKo. Students will learn both about the basics of photography, its history and how to use both manual and automatic functions of their cameras; including shooting modes, aperture, shutter speeds, ISO & White Balance. Techniques for how to successfully use color, light, composition and image construction in photographs will also be covered. Processing and editing images in photo-related software, as well as presentation techniques, will round out the class. This class is suitable for both beginners, and more experienced students looking to further their skills. Materials included.
BRING: Snack and any kind of digital camera
INSTRUCTOR: Moira McDonald
Week 1: Making a photograph. Composition & basic camera settings. Make dioramas for photographing.
Week 2: Finding a photograph. Depth of field & Motion – Semi-auto settings. Field trip to SF MOMA. Portraiture and City Photography.
Week 3: Manual settings review. Downloading photos, introduction to digital editing. Scannerography.
Week 4: Converting color to b/w & fine tuning editing in Lightroom.
Week 5: Color/Light/Line – Manual settings on camera. Portraiture & Abstract Photography. Field trip to shoot in Yerba Buena.
Week 6: Make Books! Final editing & printing.
Week 7: Printing and Final Presentation
