The wet transfer process yields one-of-a-kind, handmade prints from images made using archival inks and digital printers. In this 1- day workshop, we'll start with a discussion of how to digitally print our photographs on to a special plastic transfer film. Then, we'll roll up our sleeves and learn how to use combinations of alcohol, water, and even Purell sanitizer to hand transfer the photograph from the plastic film to art and handmade papers. Depending on the technique used for making the wet transfer, an almost limitless variety of effects and manipulations can be achieved. We'll make a cleanly transferred image to beautiful printmaking paper, a distressed and 'imperfect' transfer to wrinkled acid free tissue paper, a transfer with a loosely hand-brushed border, and more. The workshop will include demonstrations and hands-on practice, and students will leave with their own transfer prints. Some materials will be supplied with class.
