Introduction to Bookbinding

Students will learn two methods of hand-bound adhesive bookbinding techniques, the accordion book and Coptic binding - a lay-flat binding technique. Both techniques are useful for photography portfolios, artist’s books, sketchbooks/journals, or mock-ups. Participants will learn cutting, folding, binding, and adhering techniques, and will then complete a hand-bound book of their own content. Students will explore sequencing, cover styles, scale, and the meeting of form and function. Some materials will be included in this class.
