Visual Language in Photography
The visual language is a system of communication using visual elements. In this class students will look at what is a visual element in photography and the photographic language. Signs, symbols and use of metaphor in the understanding and interpretation of photographs is key as well as intention, personal meaning, and history. In short, the class will focus on in how our images communicate to a viewer. The structure of the class will include lectures, critiques, a few basic readings and discussions.
PRE-REQ: A firm grasp of the basic concepts of photography and a solid understanding of basic compositional and printing techniques in any medium of choice
BRING: 5-10 prints/examples of your work to the first class meeting.
INCLUDES: Tuition includes a lab pass to RayKo's computer workstations, the B&W and color group darkrooms, as well as B&W film processing. The lab pass does not include access to scanners or printer workstations..
